Mid Season Championship & Clifford Concrete/Robbins Property Maintenance

Bradford, Vt. July 19, 2009
Tons of racing at Bear Ridge Speedway once again provided the fans with the best short track racing excitement in New England as Mid season Championship features sponsored by Mekkelsen RV (rained out from the week before) plus a full card of racing sponsored by Rich Clifford Concrete and Robbins Property Maintenance were run Saturday night July 18, 2009.
The first half of the night competitors lined up for their Mid Season Championship double points features sponsored by Mekkelsen RV.
For the KDD NAPA Ridge Runner Hornets Bobby Lee Bell #24 St Johnsbury VT is working hard to close the gap on Tom Placey #22 Bradford VT in the points battle and was hoping double points would help close the gap. Unfortunately you need to beat the guy who is ahead of you not finish behind him. Being the top point runners of the pack, and finishing up front consistently these boys find themselves having to make it there the hard way from the back of the pack, and that is just what they did this week with Carl Sweet #85 East Corinth VT in tow. At the checkers it was Placey for the win, with Bell in second and Sweet in third.
Andy Johnson #12 Wilder VT in the Journal Opinion Fast Fours saw his three week average putting him in the coveted pole position, and that is just where he decided to stay, dominated the double points event with the win. Following him to the infield concrete pad were Nathan Potter #4 Sharon VT in second Steve Bell #10 St Johnsbury VT in third.
The A Notch Above Limited Late Models continue to see increased car count and new faces, which means even better racing for the fans. One of the regular competitors looking to narrow the gap of Danny Eastman’s lead is TC Forward #14 Lebanon NH. Tonight TC would too see his pole position affording him the spot to be, and he was able to hold off the hard fought chargers to make it to the finish line first for his first win of the season at the Ridge. The remaining two spots went to Shane Race #22 Strafford VT in second and Jeremy Hodge #17 Piermont NH in third.
In the Wells River Chevrolet Sportsman Coupes Melvin Pierson #33 East Corinth VT started mid pack and worked his way to the front for the win with #71 Josh Harrington Topsham VT coming from even further back crossing the line in second. The final victory lane spot went to #16 Billy Simmons Bradford VT for their Mid Season Championship night event.
For the BOND Auto Parts Sportsman Modifieds it was another pole sitter who was able to capitalize on his lucky starting spot and come home the winner, the first at the Ridge. Travis Shinn #11 not three weeks ago ended his night on his roof. To night he would end it in another unfamiliar spot, but much more to his liking, victory lane. Not only would he make it to victory lane for the first time, but he figured no sense in fooling around if I’m gonna be there it might as well be in first. Shinn drove the race of his career holding off the pack behind him and sailed home for the win over Wayne Stearns #1 Thetford Ctr VT and Gary Siemons #5 Orford NH in third.
The final make up race for the Mid Season Championship features was the P&C Foods Hornet Queens. Misty Bell #19 St Johnsbury VT looked strong for most of the race, but a late race bobble gave Melissa King #99 Corinth VT the opportunity she needed. King would get by Bell late in the race, and hold on for the win with Bell coming home in second and Amber Harrington #51 in third.
Up next were the regular scheduled features for the Clifford Concrete & Excavation and Robbins Property Maintenance sponsored night
For the KDD NAPA Ridge Runner Hornets it was déjà vou in victory lane. Bobby Lee Bell #24 St Johnsbury VT found himself once again finishing behind Tom Placey #22 Bradford VT in the second place spot with Placey coming home your winner for the second time this night. Third was filled by the same driver as before Carl Sweet #85 East Corinth VT.
For the Journal Opinion Fast Fours rough riding leaves this finish unofficial at post time. Mitch Durkee #5 Sharon VT is your winner with Nathan Potter #4 Sharon VT coming home in second. Both official finishes, third back is still under review, results forth coming.
For the A Notch Above Auto Limited Late Models it was madness night for the drivers. Even with two rain outs, the drivers were able to come home with enough laps to run twin fifteens. Jeremy Hodge #17 Piermont NH brought in the most laps earning him the pole position to start the first segment. Mechanical difficulties seem to plague this division tonight as several cars experienced difficulties thru out the night. Danny Eastman #8 Thetford Center VT was able to come home the winner of segment one which meant that he got to start last in segment two. In segment two the finish was inverted from segment one and when the checkers waved Shane Race #22 Strafford VT came across the line first. Your overall top three for the A Notch Above Limited Late Models were Shane Race with his 2nd place finish in segment one putting him at a tie with Eastman, for madness events ties is broken by the last segment finish. Third would go to Ray Johnson #79 Thornton NH.
In the Wells River Chevrolet Sportsman Coupes #71 Josh Harrington Topsham VT did one better than the first feature coming home the winner over Bryan King #X Corinth VT with his second best finish of the season in the Coupes. Third would go to Melvin Pierson #33 E Corinth VT.
For the BOND Auto Parts Sportsman Modifieds another full field of cars hit the dirt for their 30 lap main event. Bryan King #X Corinth VT brought the field to the green and pulled away from the pack in dominate fashion. King was strong all night and looked poised to be cruzing home to his first win of the season, when a late race bobble gave Chris Donnelly #17 Orford NH the opportunity he needed. Donnelly took the lead from King with less than five to go, and King didn’t give up without a fight, but was unable to regain the lead. King was able to hold on to second with the third and final victory lane spot of the night being filled by Ryan Avery #01 Thornton NH.

Bear Ridge Speedway to host annual David's House Benefit Night July 11th

DAVID'S HOUSE in memory of David Cyr, who died of lymphocytic leukemia, offers a home-away-from-home for children receiving treatment through CHAD at DHMC. Children aren't medical patients or motel guests at David's House; they are part of their own family. David's House is for the families of these children a retreat where they can stay to find, and give, support to their child and to each other.
DAVID'S HOUSE is a private, not-for-profit corporation receiving no assistance from DHMC or the Federal Government. It keeps administrative costs to a minimum thanks to over 150 volunteers who give thousands of hours each year. David's House asks for only a $20 donation per family per night for families with children who are receiving treatment. No one is turned away due to the inability to pay. Room revenues cover less than 10% of annual operating expenses. The rest comes from fund raising events, grants, and the generous support of people who care about these families.
On behalf of all the families who need David's House now and in the future, thank you. There are many ways you can help David's House continue to provide a supportive, caring environment for families during their difficult challenges. For more information about how you can help David's House please call the house at 603/643-2298 or visit the web at www.davids-house.org
Remember even in difficult times, illness and injury still occur. We hope that you will dig deep in support of this much needed home, and know that what ever you can do, no amount is too small!
I thank god everyday that I don't know someone who is in need of David's House, and I thank god everyday that David's House is there for those that do.

Dennis Preston Builder night Rained Out

Bear Ridge Speedway 99ROCK weekly racing series sponsored by Dennis Preston Builder looses out to Mother Nature. Persistent showers on and off all day proved to be too much for track preparation, and after giving it a valiant effort, Promoter CV “Butch” Elms conceded that it would take too long to get the track into racing conditions. All fans with their ticket stubs and competitors with their wrist bands will be able to get in this coming Saturday July 11, 2009 for the Mekkelsen RV Midseason Championship Night.
