For Immediate Release contact brsdirt@charter.net
Bradford, Vt. September 26, 2010
The 99ROCK wfrd weekly racing series at Bear Ridge Speedway is officially over for 2010 with the running of the New England Dirt Track Championships held Saturday night.
All five divisions were on hand for twin 25 lap features, plus there were bike giveaways with 15 lucky kids taking away a bike or scooter of their own, fireworks in the sky to cap the season off and a wild and fiery demolition derby for the packed house. The KDD NAPA of Bradford Demolition cars saw five walking away with trophies with a winner crowned in the Demo cars spectator drags, Chris Carbee the “Best of Show” and Tim Spooner, first, taking home the big check surviving till the end, with Brent Warren, second, lasting until next to last and Stacey Mayhew third, third from last man standing
In the KDD NAPA Ridge Runner Hornets, Thomas Placey #22 Bradford VT lived up to his promise saying he was not going to claim his second title in a row in this division laying down, capturing the win in both of his segments. Placey was able to rely on a little luck the first segment drawing the outside pole for the starting spot, and surviving an almost catastrophe on the back stretch while in lapped traffic to take home the checkers. In the second segment Placey would have to work for the win as he was back to his old familiar starting spot in the rear. Placey was joined in victory lane by Jessie Smith #8 Topsham VT in second by followed by Bobby Lee Bell #24 St Johnsbury VT in third. A post race review of the finishes actually showed a three way tie for second with Don Reynolds #87 Springfield VT in the mix with Bell and Smith. Reynolds’ second place finish in the second segment makes him the tie breaker and actual 2nd place finisher overall with Jessie Smith finishing behind Reynolds in the second segment ahead of Bell to claim the third spot.
The segment one “Non Winners Award” sponsored by John Sleeper was claimed by Brad Martin #34 and the segment two “Non Winners Award” sponsored by Gary’s Tire and Auto Claremont NH went to Don Reynolds #57.
In the Journal Opinion Fast Fours Josh Sunn #11 White River Jet had the championship wrapped up a couple of weeks ago, which was a good thing. Sunns night would end early with a ride from the track in the ambulance after had contact was made with the front stretch wall after the competition including Sunn tried to make it four wide with no one wanting to give. Sunn was able to walk to ambulance and was shaken up with some bruising to come, but was overall a-ok. This would end his night and he would have to watch as Tim Hodge #2 Vershire VT sailed on to claim the first segment win and Travis Hull #66 E Montpelier VT take home the second segment win. Overall Tim Hodge was crowed the winner, with second going to Kevin Harran #57 St Johnsbury VT and Travis Hull in third.
The segment one “Non Winners Award” sponsored by “anonymous” was claimed by Andy Johnson #25 and the segment two “Non Winners Award” sponsored by Gary’s Tire and Auto Claremont NH went to Robert Tilden #14 .
The A Notch Above Limited Late Models competitors with one of their better fields of cars for the season gave Will Hull #61 E Montpelier VT one last challenge for the points title, but Hull was able to keep himself in both segments to come home with an overall finish of 12th but the championship title by just 21 points. With Hull out of contention for the segment wins and overall winner Ray Johnson #79 by luck of the draw was able to start on the pole in segment one and go on to claim the win. Segment two was claimed by Tyler Stygles #50 Bradford VT, which solidified his second place finish in the points standings. Your overall top three were Tyler Stygles, Ray Johnson and Troy Comeau #89.
The segment one “Non Winners Award” sponsored by “Shelly Dole” was claimed by Jason Giguere #23 and the segment two “Non Winners Award” sponsored by Gary’s Tire and Auto Claremont NH went to Ray Johnson #79 .
In the Wells River Chevrolet Coupes Gene Pierson #44 E Corinth VT beat out brother Melvin Pierson for the overall win and the 2010 Championship title. The racing action saw the Rookie of the year Shane Race #22 Vershire VT as the first segment winner and Josh Harrington #71 E Topsham VT the second segment winner.
The overall top three were Gene Pierson, Shane Race, and Josh Harrington.
The segment one “Non Winners Award” sponsored by “It’ll Do Farm Bill and Nancy White” was claimed by Buster Kathan #13 and the segment two “Non Winners Award” sponsored by Gary’s Tire and Auto Claremont NH went to Terry Williams #46.
For the famed 99ROCK weekly racing series earth pounding ground shaking heart throbbing Bond Auto Parts Sportsman Modifieds almost two dozen machines took to the ¼ mile clay oval to compete for the gold cups and as is usually the case the veterans once again found their way to the top. Segment one was claimed by Adam Pierson #15 E Fairlee VT with segment two going to Chris Donnelly #91 Orford NH. The overall top three were Chris Donnelly #91, Adam Pierson #15 and Kevin Chaffee #8.
The segment one “Non Winners Award” sponsored by “Dennis Preston” was claimed by Justin Combs #51 and the segment two “Non Winners Award” sponsored by Gary’s Tire and Auto Claremont NH went to Peter Carlotte #12c .

99 rock championship night 9/11/10

For Immediate Release contact brsdirt@charter.net
Bradford, Vt. September 11, 2010
The 99ROCK wfrd weekly racing series Championship night ended with forty years separating the first place and third place victory lane spots in the Bond Auto Sportsman Modifieds division and fitting cap with new faces gracing victory lane in four of the five divisions and the best racing throughout the 2010 season on dirt in New England.
The Granite State Mini Sprints were on site for their last event of the 2010 season. Lacey Hanson in the 500 cc's came home the winner with Derek Eldridge the winner in the 600cc's.
Double points are on the line for championship night and the running order was run in the order of divisions with the 99ROCK weekly racing series the KDD NAPA Ridge Runner Hornets, hitting the clay first. Thomas Placey #22 Bradford VT is not going to claim his second title in a row in this division laying down, and this night proved to be no different. Placey having to pit early for a flat tire would come back and have to work his way to the front the hard way. Action was slowed by only one other caution on lap seventeen, which put Placey where he needed to be. In touch with the front of the pack Placey grabbed the lead from Michael Pittman #99 Corinth VT. Pittman with his best finish of the year was able to hold on to second with the third and final victory lane spot going to Mark Nickles #32 Piermont NH.
In the Journal Opinion Fast Fours Josh Sunn #11 White River Jct is of the same mind set as Placey, and also had a couple of other reasons to make his way to the front which is what he was able to do early in the race thanks in part to a restart. Sunn was able to hold off his contenders for the rest of the race, slowed only by one additional yellow to go on and claim his 80th win in his five year racing career. Sun's win also gave him the record of number of wins in one season at thirteen. Accompanying Sunn in victory lane were Tim Hodge #2 Vershire VT and Travis Hull #66 E Montpelier VT.
The A Notch Above Limited Late Models were awarded a semi feature and driver introductions due to their impressive car count. The points battle is a fairly tight one in this division with Tyler Stygles and Jeremy Hodge aggressively doing their best to knock Will Hull #61 E Montpelier VT from the top. Hull coming from mid pack diced his way to the front very early in the race and held off all competitors for each of the restarts to cruise on for his seventh win of the season. Tyler Stygles #50 Bradford VT would have to settle for the bridesmaid position with Jason Giguere #23 Lebanon NH making an impressive return appearance coming home in the third place spot.
In the Wells River Chevrolet B Coupes Mike McGinley #7 E Barre VT once again found himself in the coveted front row position for the start of the race and tonight he was able to capitalize on his good fortune survive the restarts and come home the winner. Behind McGinley the brother Piersons were the show to watch as they worked their way to the front of the pack by lap eight younger brother Melvin Pierson #33 E Corinth VT was in the second place with older brother Gene Pierson #44 E Corinth VT still working his way to the front in search of a victory lane spot. A restart late gave Gene the brake he needed putting him in sites of the third and final victory lane spot. That is how the three would cross the line at the checkers, with all three extremely happy, McGinley with his first win of the season, Melvin back in victory lane, and Gene doing what he needed to do for the points title.
The last division to hit the track for the regular 99ROCK weekly racing series were the earth pounding ground shaking heart throbbing Bond Auto Parts Sportsman Modifieds. As a promoter it is always gratifying to see new faces in victory lane, and for this division the two that made it encompassed both ends of the age bracket for competitors at the Ridge. Veteran driver Jack Cook #1nh Moultonboro NH set on the outside pole and was able to beat out the pole sitter to lead the first lap. Cook strong all year has never been able to capitalize on a good starting position, with a trip to victory lane, and new that time was running out, so if it was to be it would have to be tonight. Cook was ready to hold off the heat, and with track conditions to his liking he was able to hold off the competition and survive the restarts to sail on to his first win of the season, and first in too many years to count. Cook also a modest man, was forced to admit his age which happened to be just a mere 40 years older than the third place finisher and rookie points leader Justin Comes #51 Middlebury VT. Comes graduation from high school and just eighteen, so yes now we all know hold old Jack is, has had a great rookie season and was able to cap it off with his victory lane appearance. Claiming the middle spot in second place was last year's feature winner Gary Siemons #5 Orford NH .
The Weglarz Property Service and Excavation mind race leader award winners for Wells River Chevrolet night were:#42 Robert Tucker A Notch Above Limited Late Models and #7 Mike McGinley Wells River Chevrolet Coupes

Wells River Chevrolet Night

For Immediate Release contact brsdirt@charter.net
Bradford, Vt. September 5, 2010
Wells River Chevrolet sponsored night was delayed for a brief shower, but that didn't dampen the excitement on this the third night from the end of the season.
Back in town for the event number two of their triple crown weekend were the WYKR sponsored at the Ridge Sprint Cars of New England. An early red for a wild ride by Tunk Berry for making contact with the front stretch wall and demolishing the car set the tone for what was not one of their better showings at the ridge as three cautions would continue to slow the pace on their main event. Surviving the restarts and dominating the field to claim the win was Danny Douville. Coming home in second was Floyd Billington, with third going to Kevin Chaffee.
The pace was only slowed once in the 99ROCK weekly racing series the KDD NAPA Ridge Runner Hornets, but for pole sitter Mark Nickels #32 Piermont NH it didn't matter, as Thomas Placey #22 Bradford VT just one lap before it waved would claim the lead. Placey sailed on for yet another win for the season with Nickels holding on for second. Third would once again be claimed by Brad Martin #34 Thomaston CT.
It was double point madness for the Journal Opinion Fast Fours with over fifteen hundred extra dollars on the line for the competitors. Triple fifteens were on the agenda and the first one was led by Travis Hull by virtue of bringing in the most laps sponsored. Josh Sunn #11 White River Jct would claim the pole spot from Hull on lap five and go on to claim the win for this segment with Tim Hodge #2 Vershire VT taking second and Kevin Harran #57 St Johnsbury VT third.
The second segment inverted from the first finish found Tim Martin on the pole and that is where he stayed from green to checkers. The caution free event made work a bit tougher for Josh Sunn #11 White River Jct to get to the front and the laps would run out before he could set a challenge on Martin. Sunn would cross the line in second with Tim Hodge #2 Vershire VT.
The third segment was led to the green by Andy Johnson, who would lead just past half way until Kevin Harran #57 St Johnsbury VT, the rest of the laps including the last would go to Harran as he claimed the third segment win. Finishing second was Tim Hodge #2 Vershire VT with third going to Josh Sunn #11 White River Jct.

As is the case in all the divisions, everyone wants to get either their first or one more win before the end of the season, and everyone wants to win the championship. With just two weeks to go, it is hoped that the true champions will shine thru at the end of the day. Unfortunately points can be frustrating when you are trying so hard to win that championship, and it seems most prevalent in the A Notch Above Limited Late Models. Several cautions would slow the pace for the field of cars for drivers just plain over driving and/or getting frustrated. Robert Tucker #42 would have to survive too many cautions from the point, but tonight he was up to the challenge. When the checkers finally waved it was Tucker for the win. Coming home in second was Ray Johnson #79 and third would go to Jeremy Stygles #17. Will Hull your current points leader found himself at the wrong end of the stick once again with most of the sheet metal ripped off the front end of his car, at no fault of his own. Hull was able to keep the car going but would only be able to bring home a sixth place finish.
In the Wells River Chevrolet B Coupes Mike McGinley found himself in the coveted pole position for the start of the race and was able to hold on to the point until just past halfway. A restart bobble by McGinley would cost him the point and ready to take his place was Josh Harrington #3 Topsham VT who never looked back for the second half of the race taking home the checkers. Joining Harrington in victory lane for a history making top three were stable cars, all owned by Harrington, Jason Horniak #3 Bradford VT and Chris Carbee #5 So Rygate VT in second and third.
The most important lap to lead in a race is of course the last lap, and in the 99ROCK weekly racing series Bond Auto Parts Sportsman Modifieds Bryan King is still looking to lead that last lap. King was able to hold on until just past half way when a caution found Gary Siemons #5 Orford NH just behind King on the restart and ready to pounce. Siemons took the lead and checked out on the field for the rest of the event. Adam Pierson #15 Fairlee VT your current points leader was able to make his way up to second with Kevin Chaffee #7 Orange VT coming home in third.
The Weglarz Property Service and Excavation mind race leader award winners for Sabil & Sons night were:#15 Adam Pierson Bond Auto Sportsman Modifieds and #22 Shane Race Wells River Chevrolet Coupes
The Twin State Ford Lap Leader award winners for the month of August were #34 Brad Martin in the KDD NAPA Ridge Runner Hornets and #16 Josh Connors Journal Opinion Fast Fours.
