Bradford, Vt. June 13, 2010
Once again, for the loyal fans who throw caution to the wind despite what the weather man says, some of the best dirt track racing in New England was seen by the 99Rock weekly racing divisions sponsored by Bond Auto Parts at Bear Ridge Speedway. Rain early in the day made for, what has been heard around the pit area, one of the fastest tracks they have had in a long time which made for great racing. It was Modified Madness for the 99ROCK weekly racing series Bond Auto Parts Sportsman Modifieds, with a record 138 laps sponsored for the event. Madness equals more money paid out on each lap, and with this many laps sponsored the money paid out on each lap was doubled which offered more to the drivers down the line. Three 25 lap segments were run and three 25 laps of edge of your seat racing was seen.
The segment one field of cars was brought to the green by Ryan Dutton #21 Bradford VT due to his 31 laps sponsored and turned in one week prior to the event which earned him the pole position. Dutton capitalized on his start and held off the full field of cars to lead every lap of the event. Gary Siemons #5 Orford NH starting sixth on the grid found himself mired in traffic unable to advance past fourth till late in the segment. By lap 21 Siemons had worked his way up to 2nd, getting past Jack Cook #1nh Moultonboro NH who finished behind him in third. Fourth and fifth were claimed by Adam Pierson and Bryan King.
Segment two was lined up from the inverted finish of segment one, cars on the track at the checkers. Justin Comes making the trek from over the mountain on graduation day cashed in on some extra bucks for the first several laps until Travis Shinn #11 Rumney NH claimed the lead and held on for the remaining laps to claim segment two. The three men on the move advancing the most positions in this segment were Bryan King #X Corinth VT who came home in second, Gary Siemons #5 Orford NH crossing the line in third, and Adam Pierson who came home fourth. Danny Eastman finished the top five.
The final segment once again inverted gave last week's feature winner the honor of setting the pace, but some early mix-ups and cautions, made it easy picking for the seasoned veterans to work their way to the front. Adam Pierson #15 Fairlee VT was one of those drivers who got to the front and set sail on the field claiming segment three. Jason Gray #00 E Thetford VT came home in second with Gary Siemons #5 Orford NH in third. Rounding out the top five were Danny Eastman and Mike Dunn.
The overall finish is a combination of the three segments and if your name is in bold each time, there is a pretty good chance you will float to the top overall. Gary Siemons #5 Orford NH by virtue of his one 2nd place finish and two thirds was your overall winner with Adam Pierson #15 Fairlee VT in third, and Bryan King #X Corinth VT in third. Fourth went to Jason Gray and fifth to Danny Eastman.
In the 99 Rock weekly racing series Journal Opinion Fast Fours #11 Josh Sunn White River Jct VT is setting himself up to be the driver who leads the most laps, and wins the most races for the season as he claimed his fifth in a row victory over the two competitors who are just waiting for his bad mojo to kick in. #57 Mark Harran St Johnsbury VT once again finished in the bridesmaid position, second, with #25 Andy Johnson Wilder VT in third.
In the 99 Rock weekly racing series Wells River Chevrolet Sportsman Coupes it looked like Steve Ellsworth #21 Corinth VT was going to finally make his way back to the first place spot, but a late race nap by Ellsworth gave Bryan King #X Corinth VT just the opportunity he was looking for, taking the lead from Ellsworth on lap 15 and holding on till the end. The only driver here who is probably still napping is King, running double duty in the mods and coupes, King recorded over a 120 laps between the two machines!. Chris Carbee was hoping to bring home the first triple crown of the season winning his heat and the Blackmount Equipment Semi Feature event, but a medical problem made holding on to his fifth place position about all he could handle. We hope that he is able to concur this plaguing illness and come back to claim the triple crown another day! Crossing the line in third was Jason Horniak #3 Bradford VT.
In the 99 Rock weekly racing series KDD NAPA Ridge Runner Hornets Thomas Placey #22 Bradford VT is slowing regaining his rhythm, as he was finally able to get thru traffic and take the lead on lap 14 and keep all four wheels on his machine until the checkers waved. Joining Placey in victory lane for the first time this season was Mike Ryan #86 Chelsea VT, with Karl Sheldon #19 St Johnsbury VT in third. Bobby Bell and David West completed the top five.
The 99 Rock weekly racing series A Notch Above Limited Late Models took to the track for their feature with Jason Blake and Tyler Stygles #50 Bradford VT leading the way. Stygles got the jump on Blake and proceeded to dust the field. The battle for position would fall to Blake and Jeremy Hodge #17 Newbury VT with Hodge able to claim the spot. This would be for third place as last week's feature winner #61 Will Hull E. Montpelier VT had set sail on the field in an effort to concur Stygles but was only able to cross the line in second.
The 99 Rock weekly racing series Hannaford Supermarkets Hornet Queens were buzzing around the track with Misty Bell in the #19 of Karl Sheldon flying away from the field. Melissa King in the #99 of Michael Pittman was unable to close the gap having to settle for second place with Donna Racine in the #24 of Bobby Lee Bell coming home in third.
The Weglarz Property Service and Excavation mind race leader award winners for Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank night were: were #11 Josh Sunn in the Journal Opinion Fast Fours and #22 Thomas Placey in the KDD NAPA Ridge Runner Hornets.
