Sabil & Sons night

Bradford, Vt. August 29, 2010
Sabil & Sons Old Timers Night afforded fans a full field of antique cars as well as full fields of cars of today, with plenty the best quarter mile clay oval racing in New England Saturday Night at the Ridge.
Visiting for their fourth annual event, were the "Old Timers" with over 16 cars on hand for the fans to see. Not only could you get up close and personal, but the fans were able to watch the machines of yester year take to the track for some "fast paced" hot laps. The #3 machine of Bother Eastman recently restored was there for all to see, and Brother himself was able to take the machine around the track in what was an emotional trip down memory lane for all. This event has grown over the past four years and Sabil & Sons and Bear Ridge Speedway are excited to see what the next four years will bring.
In the 99ROCK weekly racing series the KDD NAPA Ridge Runner Hornets some lessons could be learned by the other division points battlers from Thomas Placey #22 Bradford VT who continues to dominate the field each week, which is helping him to secure his second championship at the Ridge. While it "ain't over till it's over" if Placey continues on at his present pace, he will be the one to claim the crown. Placey starting in eleventh claimed the lead on lap thirteen and never looked back. Coming with him for the ride was Eric Lang #66 Groton VT and Brad Martin #34 Thomaston CT coming home second and third.
New faces continue to roll in in the Journal Opinion Fast Fours making competition a bit tougher for Josh Sunn #11 White River Jct, but Sunn like Placey is up for the challenge. Sunn capitalized on the yellow flag to work his way thru traffic and by lap seven on the final restart, take the lead from Brandon Lemere #1 Lebanon NH and never look back. Lemere was able to hold on for second, making it his second trip in a row to victory lane with Kevin Harran #57 St Johnsbury Ctr VT coming home in third.
In the 99Rock weekly racing series A Notch Above Limited Late Models it was nice to see the current points leader finally get the monkey off his back, which had been there of late. Will Hull #61 E Montpelier VT earlier in the year was sitting on a rather large points lead and during the middle part of the season watched that point lead virtually disappear. Hull was able to get the lead on the field early and looked strong as he sailed on to victory lane to claim the checkers over Jason Blake #07 Moretown VT and Tyler Stygles #50 Bradford VT.
In the Wells River Chevrolet B Coupes Melvin Pierson was hoping that if it could happen for Hull that it could happen for him as well. Pierson trying desperately to reclaim the points lead from brother Gene, would once again see his night go away as he was caught up in yet another altercation with some of his competitors. Shane Race #22 Vershire VT was focusing on his own goals with a Triple Crown on the line if he could cross the line first. Race took the lead from Jeremy Beckley on lap eleven and was dominate until lap twenty two when Josh Harrington #3 Topsham VT said sorry not today, taking the lead and going on for the win. Gene Pierson #44 E Corinth VT was tight on Harrington's heals and was able to follow him landing in the second place spot. Race was able to hold on to the third and final victory lane spot.
The 99ROCK weekly racing series Bond Auto Parts Sportsman Modifieds are seeing some of the toughest Rookie competition to hit the track in years. Six drivers are competing for the rookie honors and all six are lined up behind one another in the points standings. The current Rookie leader Justin Comes gave up the lead to Jason Gray on lap ten who was only able to hold on for three laps before Adam Pierson #15 Fairlee VT working on the outside made the move in two for the lead and made it stick. It was all Pierson from that point on with the battle ensuing for the final two victory lane spots. Gray's machine wasn't quite up to snuff this night and by the time the checkers waved, he watched as three other made it past him with Kevin Chaffee #7 Orange VT claiming the runner up stop with only a handful of laps to go. Wayne Stearns #1D Bradford VT in his second appearance in 2010 also made it by to claim the third and final victory lane spot.
The Weglarz Property Service and Excavation mind race leader award winners for Perry's Oil Service night were:#16 Josh Connors in the Journal Opinion Fast Fours and #X Bryan King in the Wells River Chevrolet Sportsman Coupes
