With only six more weeks of racing excitement at the Bear Ridge Speedway for 2009 the battles thicken, as competitors look to claim the crowns in their respective divisions. This was no exception tonight for the Walker Motor Sales sponsored night. In addition to the 99ROCK weekly racing series full card of racing plus the P&C Hornet Queens, SCoNE (Sprint Cars of New England) were on hand for an extra appearance at the Ridge. Clay Dow #59 claimed the checkers with Matt Shuart #18F in second and Bob Giuliani #38 in third.
In the KDD NAPA Ridge Runner Hornets Tom Placey #22 Bradford VT continues to dominate the division, seeming unstoppable. Placey once again came from deep in the pack to the front, to claim yet another win. The surprise visitor to victory lane would be Charlie Lakin #3 Groton VT coming from mid pack to finish in second place for his first visit to victory lane in 2009. The third and final spot was filled by Karl Sheldon #19 St Johnsbury VT (a proud new father!!)
The Journal Opinion Fast Fours were back in force this week and it was all about Mitch Durkee #5 Sharon VT who dominated the event ,on his tails Steve Bell #10 St Johnsbury VT did his best to set a challenge, but in the end it was Durkee across the line for the win. Bell would lose one more spot before the checkers waved to Andy Johnson #12 Wilder VT who would beat Bell for second.
The A Notch Above Limited Late Models couldn’t seem to get their act together this night with several cautions waving on the field of cars. TC Forward and Jeremy Hodge brought the full field to the green, but from there it would be downhill for Forward who continues to struggle with the handling of his machine. Working their way to the front of the field were Danny Eastman #8 Thetford Ctr VT and Troy Comeau #89 Rumney NH who would finish in that order across the line, with Will Hull #61 E Montpelier VT coming home in third.
It was MADNESS Night for the Wells River Chevrolet Sportsman Coupes and what a madness it was! The drivers of this division came up with 67 laps for an extra two thousand dollars on the line. But before the race began, Steve Ellsworth would fall from competition in his first appearance of the season due to mechanical problems, so the competition would be set at 65 laps run in three segments for the rest of the field.
Jason Horniak sat on the pole for segment one having secured the most laps at eighteen. Their three segments would be run almost caution free, and at the end of segment one the finish would be Josh Harrington, Jason Horniak, and Melvin Pierson. Segment two would be lined up inverted from the finish of those left on the track at the end of segment one, and at the end of this segment the top three across the line were Melvin Pierson, Billy Simmons and Bryan King. Segment three was inverted yet again this time from the second segment finish and when the checkers waved on this the final segment Josh Harrington crossed the line first with Bryan King and Billy Simmons second and third. The overall finish is the combination of all three events which would see Bryan King #X Corinth VT the third place finisher, Melvin Pierson #33 East Corinth VT second and Josh Harrington #71 Topsham VT your overall winner.
The BOND Auto Parts Sportsman Modifieds suffered a total of six cautions before they were able to get their feature in the record books. Blake Shepard brought the field to the green and held off the heavy hitters surviving several cautions before he slid back to third. Shepard looked poised to come home with a victory lane appearance when a late race bobble would see that trip being pushed off for yet another week, as Travis Shinn #11 Groton NH got by him to come home third for his second trip to victory lane this season. Shinn would join Gary Siemons #5 Orford NH who dominated the second half of the event coming home the winner with Bob Shepard #44 W Topsham VT in the final victory lane spot, second place.
The P&C Hornet Queens were here again, and after the falling of their rides in the KDD NAPA Ridge Runner Hornets, only three were able to take the green. Emily Harrington wife of Coupe Driver Josh Harrington decided to give it a try, and would come home in third place behind Misty Bell who held off Melissa King for the win.
